I rember when they launched 95 back in 1995 Big Smile

My dad came running up to me with the newspaper;

Check this out son!

There was this huge multipage add in it. Something about lines of code and pizza's consumed. And the final page was just this BIG A$$ start button.

Beats this party thing hands down,..

Heh i kind of wish i had kept the stuff they sent the store i worked in back then.

we had a huge poster that was like 3 foot wide and 6 foot tall - or some huge size like that.

and a fake "windows 95" box that was also way big.

we were a small shop - not a chain.  but i got us windows beta copies and we had like 3 shipping boxes of 95 and NFR copies for the store on launch day.....  we sold a ton of 95 to gamers who had seen us running DOS games from windows 95 w/o any problems.

we also had at least 30 or 40  gamers come in and pay us to show them how to setup games to run from 95.

we had some that just ran and some that did a go-to-dos-mode thing....

we were doing it with the beta in the store for like a month before the release date.

and the rolling stones lanuch song --   Start Me Up!

wish 7 had a cool lauch song / event like that.....

I think the Windows 95 launched has spoiled us Wink

What was all the bleeping for?

Okay, so it wasn't me; it just isn't funny, fair enough.

To be honest, I got a bigger hoot out of the original. Microsoft has just completely redefined the word 'naff'.

I mean why would anyone want to host a party, in their house, for an operating system launch?

No one asked me to host a launch party for our steam iron.

Oh come on, Ray, it'll be fun! Aren't most of your techy friends excited about Win7 anyway?

I actually know a few people who are doing this, they might be doing it ironically, I don't know.

The Microsoft marketing videos make me want to self-harm. They're that bad.

I know it's been seen a thousand times, but I think it's particularly appropriate in this instance.

I don't like marketing people either. We also have people in our company, bending the truth for marketing purposes. All that ever does is let people down once they realize the truth. Kinda like "The WOW starts now!".

That's why I love channel9. It's an actual look inside Microsoft, without the gradients, the braziers, the bevels and the political correct african american, women, asian and indian.

Actual work done by actual people. I think that's always been Microsoft's power, but I think they are trying to hard to mimic Apple in making it snappy. No need for that.

And yet I've seen that video linked all over the place. Sure lots of them are of the "this is so bad you have to see it" sort, but as a piece of viral advertising it has clearly worked.

Some people say that advertising is sucessful if it only makes you aware of the product. I think when it makes you despise the company that made it, and by extension curse humanity for letting it happen at all, it's not as sucessful.

Windows 7 is the cutting edge of technology, not some tupperware!

It's the OS for housewives and IT nerds trying to score,...

Excuse me, while I go and wash my laptop off with soap and put on it's air tight lid.
