Two Sides to Everything

That's very interesting from Windows Boot Speed and Green Tech point of view ... now only if MS and its partners get these things in the PCs especially netbooks ...

Nice.

About time BIOS's got an update.

I used to think 'meh' when I heard about these things; a lot of people leave their PCs in sleep mode so they wake up in a few seconds so why the need for a fast cold boot?

Then I heard the statistic (not verifiable), that if all those people in the UK with Sky TV boxes switched them off, rather that leaving them on standby, we could switch off one power station.  Although these things are on a small trickle of power, their vast numbers add up to a lot of electricity.

So a faster cold boot might encourage a lot of people to properly switch off and save a whole lot of combined resource.

Human after all

Wow- nice, about time they started using ~efi.

Now all I need is a wake up on record function in Media Center and a shutdown when finished recording,..

I'm all for faster cold boots, but the reason I let my PC sleep instead of shutting down is so it can wake up to do things while I'm not there (updates, TV recordings, defrags, backups, etc.)

This is just one of many benefits a complete switch to EFI would bring.  I for one hope the next version of Windows requires it Smiley

(Note that EFI support doesn't require dropping support for BIOS-dependent operating systems...  BIOS emulation is quite possible under EFI)
