IE8 will not run on one account on my laptop. It runs fine under another account. The account that it does actually run under is a non-domain account (not sure if that matters here). The symptoms are as soon as I start  IE8, it crashes. I have disabled all add-ins and tried launching in in-private mode, neither matter.

I also removed IE8 and reinstalled it using  "Turn Windows Features on or Off". That did not resolve the issue.

I have looked everywhere for a solution and came up empty handed.

Does anyone know of anything else I can try to fix this?

Here is the event log entry for the crash.

Can you use Process Explorer and see the last registry/files it read just before it crashed?

check the inherited permissions that file gets, sometimes that can hose things.  vista and 7 both play with a lot more "Tattoing" of file and folder permissions than xp did.

also seems odd that creating a file would trigger a sharing violation.... unless the parent folder was such that the creating process did not have the rights needed to open the directory / create a new file.

again see what the parent folders have for security and compare that to the same folder on the login that works. bet they differ.

Probably a long shot but since it doesn't work for one account but does for another/others, maybe comparing the list of running processes for the two accounts will reveal a difference.

My name has 9 letters. Coincidence? I think not...

I was going to suggest opening internet options from the control panel and resetting IE, but I guess I'm too late for that. Smiley

well i feel your pain but if this was / is the rtm win7 install i would have liked to been able to nail down the issue and report it to microsoft. if anyone else get this problem they should call microsoft and open a case. it should be a free support case and would i hope at least get it into the kb database with a "how to fix this" untill they could do a patch or a hotfix.

just in case someone else get this kind of problem....
