It sounds like an ad-supported Office will ship with Windows 7. Does this mean it'll be done on 10/22 and shipping soon?

So you buy a plastic card... Your computer explodes. They reinstall it (without the disks, because your OEM didn't give you them!) and now you don't have Office installed. What then?

???

the post on 10 mentions a download and i bet you can use other folks disks with your key to re-load.

and of course before your computer goes you really should make a backup in the first place.

Given that the "trial" version of Office 2007 is, in fact, the full version and can be enabled by just entering a valid key, I'd assume the same will be true of Office 2010. And OEM recovery disks would likely restore default shipping apps like this Office "lite" too.

Plus all the spyware too. Joy.

I often rebuild Dell disks to remove the $OEM$ folder so you wind up with a clean installation.

Microsoft already gives medialess kits with a plastic card that contains the key. If you follow the link that is displayed on the card you end up here:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/backup/en-us/default.mspx

Which allows you to download or order a copy of Office.

"When Office 2010 premieres (the official date is still unknown at this point), a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to Betanews, new Windows 7 PCs will be made available through participating OEMs..."
