http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/10/19/visual_studio_2010_second_beta_packaging/

The changes will be unveiled today, as Microsoft announces the second Visual Studio 2010 beta and .NET Framework 4 beta two have been released to MSDN subscribers with everyone else getting code on October 21.

Also, Microsoft will announce Visual Studio 2010 will officially launch on March 22, 2010.

But when can we sign up to the launch event, and will there be free copies?  These are the important questions .... Wink

Looks like this is true, the documentation for Beta 2 is up: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/w0x726c2(VS.100).aspx

Ultimate will include all these features, plus UML tools, historical debugging, manual testing products and load testing along with the full Visual Studio 2010 Team Foundation Server.

Historical debugging has been a real focus point when people talk about VS2010 and now it will only be available when you use the Ultimate version. Bummer...

???

wow ... most of the time this stuff would be done end of week...

I would have expected it to start on say wed/thrurs for MSDN and then the rest on the week after - giving msdn a 3-5 day head start.

but heck it's all good anyway....

VS2010 Beta 2 IS NOW AVAILABLE on MSDN subscriptions.

Just in case....

folks it can take a day or two for all of the server farm to update.

so if you go and do not see it or it is there and then you go back and it's not etc.... chill.

give them time to sync the data accross the server farm.

Just Because...

Oh great, its named like MS Office 2007. Ultimate, Premium, Professional, Why do they have to do that???

Downloading... I may have chosen the wrong SKU (Professional), but even though the articles that are circulating seem to indicate that MSDN subscribers should get either Premium or Ultimate, I could not find an explicit statement by Microsoft to that effect.

Too bad... what I really wanted was to test a barebone TFS replacement for VSS, but I guess that will have to wait Sad

A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent.

This is brilliance at work.  With a SKU name like Ultimate, who would want to use anything else?  In fact, I felt so compelled that I am downloading it right now.

well i can deal with that for 2 reasons:

1) Pro has always been a name for each VS before this one, like Visual Studio 2008 Pro.

2) they merged a bunch of stuff so that we do not have 27 versions -- Pro now has the stuff that was in 05 and 08 split into like 4 different versions (Test, Arch, Database and whatever)

so we get a simpler set of names and a better set of features in one simple name.

Heh,  just drop the "2010" and make it Visual Studio Ultimate

and give us auto-updates till say 2099  Smiley

LOL...

Yep, still thinking clearly but loosing hair on the top and turning grey on the beard....  But Now I can tell the "Kids" to calm down ...

still got a few good years ahead... but 2099 or after - well let's just say by then i'd be getting into the 130 + age bracket.  Ok so hitting 90 may not be that far from possible but 130-140 -- well i'll check on that when i hit 90 Smiley

That's the spirit... I'm closer to 30 than 20 (which means I'm almost 44), but seeing that after 30 years things keep being interesting, I don't see myself quitting of my own accord Smiley
