Human after all

Pretty sure you could build / buy a non-mac system that has the same performance profile.. install linux or windows on it.. I see absolutely zero point in buying apple hardware for such tasks.. you get the apple design tax for something that will sit hidden away.

My experience with Shuttle has been less than stellar as far as the power supplies reliability. It is unfortunate that so many hardware suppliers don't put as much emphasys as Apple on hardware quality and visual.

Like the Apple Time Capsule power supplies that seem to be dying after 18 months due to a design flaw?

(Or the problems Apple had in the past with incorrectly applied thermal paste, plastic blockers being left in fan vents, cracked cases, discoloured cases, ridiculsouly easy-to-scratch portable devices, battery recalls... That's just off the top of my head and not considering design flaws which were made on purpose, like non-removable batteries.)

I'm not saying Apple's hardware quality is worse than other companies -- they've all had issues over the years with their designs or choice of suppliers -- but the idea that Apple have higher hardware standards seems silly to me. Somehow whenever Apple make a mistake it's dismissed as a one-off and forgotten about. It's a form of confirmation bias.

You are probably right, my experience with Apple is limited. I was naively assuming that the perceived hardware quality of the brand was true.

Some of their hardware is great, to be fair to them. Just not all of it.
