When I added photos to the Windows photo gallery thing in Vista, it automatically downloaded raw codecs for the camera.
Isn't the "raw" format different for each camera manufacturer?
It's worse than that. They're different for each model of camera. Most are completely undocumented and many still don't have codecs/libraries that programs can plug into.
Luckily there's a guy who reverse engineers all the formats and provides source for decoding them, which most Raw-capable programs use one way or another. (That's how my own Raw viewer/thumbnailer/converter for Opus works.)

How about an orange instead of an apple? Pro Photo Tools has nothing to to with Explorer thumbnails, nor with viewing in Photo Gallery or Media Center... Ironically, it will *use* the codecs referenced in the article...
