Excuse me. I'm using Windows Live Messenger 8 (thin, works great) and for the past few months Ive been getting requests once a week asking to upgrade to the Fisher-Price version....today it seems its compulsory and wont let me log in until I do so!

Oh. That sucks. MSN/Live Messenger has become much worse to the point that me and my contacts have switched exclusively to Skype.

I just wish Skype supported "real" offline messaging.

I use WLM8.5 on my XPx64 box and it works fine, but that's because WLM14 isn't supported on XPx64 so I guess we get special dispensation.

I'm using WLM14 on my laptop (XPx86) and I'm alright with it (run apatch to remove the adverts then hide all of the panels) I only wish you could show display pictures without needing the ultra-wide sidebar.

I'm not a fan of the newest version. I can't tell with the icon in the taskbar wether I'm set to away or not. Online is yellow, and away is a light yellow/green. And there's no Out To Lunch anymore.

I guess they went for "simplicity" and reasoned that Busy and On the Phone along with Away and Out to Lunch were the same things, except that being On the Phone implied a higher level of "really DO NOT DISTURB!" compared to the simple "Busy" (which most people ignore anyway).

Here is the reasoning the team is giving. Frankly I always upgrade when it prompts me and as long as remote assistance works so I can help my friends from wherever I am im happy.

This reminds me of my dad keeps using that horrifying crap CD burnning software. It only works on Sony CD (not DVD) burner and he wants to use it on a new PC. And all his kareokee stuff are using that to convert from VCD to a img file which is not the same as other img implementation. And he keep blahing about puting that 8 years of crap (plus the only CD burning that it can detect) on a new computer. And the problem will always presist. I just hope the burner is dead so he has no choice to give up on that crapware.

Why fisher price? You can turn all the backgrounds etc. off...

You can't turn off all the backgrounds, and you have to manually patch it to remove the adverts.

Welcome to the magical world of colour blindness. Green and orange in a 10x10 pixel box looks too similar.

Really? That's pretty bad of them. WM4.x had the best status icons since they used a picture of a clock and stop sign for away and busy respectively, the only problem colour-blind people might have is the Appear Offline mode was a red version of the normal green icon.
