Looks like people with x64 hardware running Windows XP gets to upgrade to Windows XP 64-bit free of charge. How cool is that? Rock'n'roll!
What about us poor fools who built our own systems and bought XP Pro. It sounds like it only is available to those who bought a x64 system with 32bit XP installed on it.

Also why don't they allow you to download the iso like they did with the trials. Why should we have to wait weeks and pay postage just for the pretty holographic CD.
What about 32-bit Professional retail users?  I can only see people with OEM copies listed there.

Since many of our partners are taking part in this program, you should check with your PC manufacturer to see if they support the exchange on your x64 computer. If they support the program, your PC manufacturer will be able to provide you with a CD that includes all of the right drivers and software specific to your computer. If you built your PC yourself or have purchased it through a system builder, you can make the exchange through the link to the right.

Is it really worth exchanging right now? There is virtually no software out which is specifically written for a 64bit Windows...
And according to some benchmarks I have seen in c'T (german magazine), there is no change in performance. The worst part is that there is a 64bit IExplorer but all the plugins are not yet available in 64bit... (Java can be downloaded as a beta)

I have a AMD64 and considered getting the 64bit version but after reading reviews I am not so sure any more.

Any suggestions?
If it is true that there is almost no software available right now that supports the 64 bit abilities, but there will be eventually, and this upgrade is free, well then why not? Performance will be the same if not better, and you'll be ready to go when applications targetted at 64 bit platforms are released.

Where do you find the COA or ProductID if not on the computer?

in the packaging that the disk came in
I got a student copy so I got the disk along with the product key but nothing else. Am I not eligible?
I wonder if XP64 Pro costs the same as XP32 Pro if you were to buy it in the shops.

I send an email to Microsoft just asking that. I will post the answer as soon as I have it!
