Is there an MSDN page yet explaining the download (i.e. confirming that it's for VS2005 beta2)?

Does anyone get resource loading exceptions with Avalon projects you've built? My project's complaining about not finding the BAML in the resources.

System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.IO.IOException: Cannot locate the resource 'clownshoe/contactlist.baml'.

Running the affected file through a hex editor tells me it's in there. Help? Sad

I do not understand Microsoft servers anymore. This afernoon I tried to download but gave up on it since I could only get a few KB per second.

Just now I tried it again and got around 10MB per second, downloaded the whole 351MB ISO image in under a minute.

Where do I find a MSI extractor? I've noticed PresentationFramework.Aero.dll showing up during installation, but the file is nowhere to be found on disk. And it's also referenced in the MSI. I want to extract it and play around with it.

I *THINK* from what I recall they they have farms of servers and have some kind of "Load Balance" that is at least in part based on a DNS RR loop.

sometimes a use of ipconfig /flushdns will pick another server from the pool.

I have seen the problem with MSDN downloads and with www.gotdotnet.com at times

Betsy -- works on GDN site; at one time told me that some servers may show up on a client browser that are out for some reason. we saw a lag between her admin action and my client getting a "fresh" server from the farm.

so it may not be DNS based, it may be IP maping etc...

but it is a funky problem that needs some MSFT TLC and perhaps a reasearch project to look at a
"Torrent Like" model where the client can see say 250 servers to pull from in paralel.

let the client time a whole slew of servers and pick the fastest ones....

I've extracted it using some tool called MSI2XML, which I've found on Sourceforge. I can't figure out what to do with it. It just contains two classes, AeroButtonChrome and AeroScrollChrome, former is derived from Decorator, latter from FrameworkElement. I have no idea how to reuse those. Ah well.
For the curious there's MSDN article coming up regarding the changes in the latest Avalon Beta 1 RC bits, but here's a sneak peek.

Some important quotes..

For this Beta 1 RC release, we have enabled a set of features that allows developers to include media in their applications for simple, one-time playback.

Incase anyone else was wondering why the RepeatBehaviour.Forever thing did not seem to work.

Karsten Januszewski says in microsoft.public.windows.developer.winfx.avalon that

--WMP 10 required
--Only .wma and .wmv

However this information seems to be not entirely correct as I had some xvid AVI that played quite nicely through Avalon MediaElement Source="blah.avi". So we can presume it is using DirectShow cause that worked and that would lead to presume most other video codecs work as well if there's no conflicts etc in the graph.

Yes, you correct it is DShow underneath the covers, and that's cool that the avi worked, although officially it hasn't been tested yet. Smiley

Any plans for an overhaul of the video stuff in far future? Avalon has the image codec stuff now, anything around video planned for Avalon v2?
Well the "Educated Guess" department brings you that most certainly there will be future Avalon CTPs, possibly separately for XP and glued on with the Longhorn releases. And my guess for when is "this year". They wouldn't leave such big thing to the last second I hope..
The PresentationFramework.Aero.dll can be found in:

\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.0

This posting may be a bit late, but may be useful for other trying to hunt it down !
