Greetings,

I have been using Win XP Pro x64, without much issue. However, the system I am using it on has both a Microsoft keyboard and mouse; one major problem is the 5.2 version of the IntelliPoint/Type software is not compatible with x64. This means that the $100 keyopboard/ mouse set is rendered useless past a typical keyboard.

I have contacted support to no avail and would like to know if anyone from Microsoft or here, knows when an x64 compatible version of the IntelliPoint/ IntelliType software is going to be availalble. It is amazing how handy it is to be able to use the roll ball etc.

A sidenote - it is strange to me that Microsoft did not have this software ready to support their own system. The software simply says XP, it does not differentiate between XP Tablet, Media etc. No one in support seems to know if or when updated software will be released, which when spending $100 on a keyboard and mouse, is frustrating.

Thanks for any info.
Ben

My name has 9 letters. Coincidence? I think not...
Unfortunately I don't have any info, but I too use XP x64, and have a Microsoft keyboard and mouse (Wireless Optical Desktop), so I'd like to know this as well.
Is there any new info on this? Its a pretty sad state of affairs that microsoft wont even release drivers for their own OS for thier own hardware.

5.3 should be up on the website within days, to support the new keyboard and mice. I'm not sure if it includes x64 support though
Out, no x64 support. I generally dont like logitech but they atleast they have x64 drivers for their hardware. I like Microsoft hardware it's just a shame they don't support it as much as i think they should.

I have been the IT Director in both small and mid size software development companies, and I think I understand about resources and priorities when it comes to software. So I’m usually fairly patient with and understanding of the resource realities when it comes to supporting another platform. And make no mistake, Windows x64 Editions are a whole new platform! But even though I don’t own any Microsoft keyboards or mice, I’m very much aware of the complaints of those who do, and who had a reasonable expectation that their Microsoft hardware would be supported in their Microsoft operating system. Well, I hate to say this, but it’s time to buy Logitech, because you won’t see support for Intellipoint devices any time soon from Microsoft. The official, formal statement I received was:

Microsoft mice and keyboards have basic functionality with the new 64-bit operating systems, but the newer features like the Magnifier, Tilt Wheel or My Favorites Keys will not work. At this point, use of 64-bit operating systems is primarily limited to very early adopters. We are looking into full compatibility with the 64-bit operating system for future products and will keep you updated if we have any announcements.

Now that’s just really sad. But when combined with the second half of what I was told, it means that the best we can hope for is a year after the release of Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. And I quote.

“Current plans are for a release in the first half of calendar year 2006”

Windows XP for x86-64 is NOT CONSUMER READY there was a big red warning when you ordered it. It is your own problem if there isn't the driver support, you should have checked before you updated.
That aside, one would expect that it being a Microsoft product and a Microsoft OS they would perhaps go the extra mile for it. Considering other hardware companys do, it looks pretty bad. If other companys can, why cant Microsoft? I installed the OS accepting some hardware might not be fully supported, but when all your hardware *is* supported and the only piece that isn't is your Microsoft product it kinda irks me. Once i have time i'll rollback to XP vanilla but these are the kind of things that will put people off buying Microsoft hardware products in future.
