I would definitely reccommend webguide as well.  Not only does it give you "software extender" capabilities, it also allows you to access your tv stream from any computer or windows mobile inside your network, or outside if you configure your router properly.

It's also great if you need to schedule recordings on the go.  The author joined the ehome team, so hopefully we will see this functionality in later releases of Media Center.
