Gentlemen, start your slashdotting engines!

(And yes, this is the first time I've seen an internal press-release announcement with a smiley)

Something new!!!!!!!!

Big Smile

Ok I suppose I can play the guessing game Wink

Longhorn will be free.
Many thanks for the heads up! Will write an article about it...

ill play along too:  because it said something new about "longhorn" <- note the quotes

i bet its the new name - as we know they said internally its been out for sometime

so i guess we find out  FX / 3D  / 2006 whatever it will be
Something new about Longhorn.... it's ... been ... canned.

LOL sorry couldn't resist, it just popped in there. Smiley

Set my homepage to that URL, so I'll find out when I login tomorrow. Smiley
It's gonna be called windows vista Wink

Or windows DRM :O
MS Windows Vista was the codename for the Visual Statistics System.

Vista

  1. A distant view or prospect, especially one seen through an opening, as between rows of buildings or trees.
  2. An avenue or other passage affording such a view.
  3. An awareness of a range of time, events, or subjects; a broad mental view: “the deep and sweeping vistas these pioneering critics opened up” (Arthur C. Danto).

i dont not like it ..takes a bit of getting used to Wink

Windows Vista is going to be a bit hard to get used to. Such an odd name. Smiley

I'm pronouncing it "veesta".  That sounds odd, though, pronouncing it as Windows "vista" is a mouthful.

mVPstar
haha i liked vis-ta better - like a car

veesta?  hey meesta - wanna try my veesta?

LHMA might be a clue. LH=Longhorn of course, the A may be announcement. That leaves the M, which if it was "Microsoft" probably would have been placed before LH.

My guess is that it's about beta bits. Perhaps Steve is quoted screaming "BETA, BETA, BETA!!! BETA FOR EVERYONE!!". Smiley

vista

vis·ta [vístə]
(plural vis·tas)
noun
1.  scenic view: a scenic or panoramic view
2.  view seen through narrow opening: a view seen through a long narrow opening, e.g. between rows of trees or buildings
3.  mental picture: a mental picture covering a wide range of objects or a long succession of events in the past or future
open up vistas of expansion into hitherto untapped markets

Fatalism.
I like the name Windows Vista Smiley

First of all, it's an immeasurable step up from "Windows 2006" or "Windows XP". My god.

Second - think about how well it fits the Windows theme.

What do you see outside your window - a vista. Smiley

And it has positive connotations.
