"If the Matrix Exist, it's written in XML"

According to this post by respected journalist Paul Thurrott  the SideBar is Back in Windows Vista Post-Beta.

UPDATE: the post was removed on Microsoft’s request, very suspicious huh?? The only thing Paul left was a screenshot of the side bar, Neowin has some more info.

A month ago I made a post complaining about Microsoft decision to abandon the LongHorn SideBar, so as you can guess I’m very pleased by the news that the sidebar is back!!!!!!

If the MVP’s want to bring back VB6, Do you think I stand a chance bringing back the SideBar??

It's beta 1, who knows. Smiley

Something weird is going on here. I've just noticed that either... But that was quite predictable that they'll return the sidebar after Apple added Dashboard to Mac OS X. I think the sidebar is really important for the next versions of Windows.

No, it's POST-beta 1. That's the point. NDA broken presumably. Rather foolish of Thurrott to post it with a big "EXCLUSIVE" banner and think there might not be repercussions.

I'm sure there are a few beta 1 leaks floating around the MS campus somewhere. Smiley

For all we know, beta 1 could already be underway and the latest build distributed to a few lucky Longhorn teamers. Wink
Steve.
Is the Vista sidebar any different than the QNX sidebar? From the screenshots they look identical in functionality.

Oh, but now it's all a backpedalling there. It's a still! From a movie! From a Microsoft public site! And M$ is evil!

Oh wait, it's not a public site. Oh, and it's heavily covered by NDAs.

(where is the rolling eyes smiley?)

Didn't someone on channel 9 already post about this video sighting of the sidebar a couple of days ago?

Quick! Censor channel 9!

I think you've misread what I've been saying. I wasn't criticising Microsoft, I was criticising Thurrott. But given the huge row over pictures of Longhorn after WinHEC (which I do criticise Microsoft for - it was a P.R. disaster) I assumed (possibly incorrectly) someone had pointed out to Thurrott the NDA he signed and how he might be in breach of it with pointing a big sign saying "EXCLUSIVE" at it (after all if everybody was as chivalrous with NDA agreements there wouldn't BE any exclusive).

My main point is he was in the wrong for breaking his NDA just to promote his site and get publicity. And for me the real story wasn't that the sidebar was back but that someone who I'd thought was quite professional had gone for a cheap publicity stunt by breaking his NDA.

My other point was this was NOT beta 1. If it was beta 1 there was no NDA in effect for MSDN Universal subscribers and so he would have presumably been within his rights posting the story.

My vote:

PLEASE BRING BACK THE SIDEBAR. Make it optional. But please bring it back. It just plain ROCKED!

I have to agree...and with Thurrotts latest article about IE I think he has some loyalty issues. Not saying he should be a fanboy or anything...just saying perhaps he should see where he's at and think about the impact that he has?

I enjoy Paul Thurrott. Smiley

Take him with a dose of humor attached. Plus, he does manage to be informative.
