There doesn't seem to be any (non-spoofable) indication that Microsoft employees are Microsoft employees.  Are there plans to bring this back?

I find it also kind of weird. I didn't know that some of the posters on C9 are Microsoft employees because there's no sign about it.

We have discussed it, and it seems like an obvious indicator to bring back... the old system wasn't very robust though, and was based on the use of a @microsoft.com email address in your profile, so we'll probably create something that relies upon access to our internal network to validate. Some employees have expressed a dislike of an indicator though, thinking that everyone should be treated the same and that an indicator suggests some sort of special status.... any thoughts about that?

Yea, it's like the MVP flag on the forums. I don't mind it on topics I know something about, other times I'd like it off because I'm asking questions or giving opinions and not facts.

Opt-in perhaps? Doesn't live give you a list of Microsoft LiveIDs in the same way they use the "influencer" database to mark MVPs in the MSDN forums?

I wouldn't compare it to the MVP flag in the msdn forums. Somebody from Microsoft doesn't post here because s/he wants to stay at Microsoft. With the MVP flag it's like they always post because they want to be renominated and therefore also post crap. This doesn't happen here because somebody from Microsoft posts (probably) only when the person knows the answer and not just for the reputation.

For me the Microsoft flag was always something like: oh cool, this guy is from Microsoft and posts in the forums. Not like: oh look, a god from Microsoft... s/he must be right. Wink

???
what about this:

if you use your "officical" msft live account you get the "badge"
if you want to be "un known" then create a second live id an use that.

granted that means a slight inconvenence to have 2 id's

but that would make a simple default .

Well, it is cool when someone from MS comes here and answers a question or issue with something like "I am on product team x and we are working on a fix for that issue in our next release." I think it's good to separate the impersonators from the real MS employees.

Perhaps have the badge/chicklet exist only in the profile and not on the forums?

(I mean, they ARE gods after all?)
