The history of Microsoft is tagged two ways "The History of Microsoft" and "History of Microsoft"

This is a problem because some videos are under one and some are under the other.

Thank you for the report. In some sense, tags are generally imprecise given the ease with which they are created and that this typically happens at Post design time by the human poster. Autotagging would be an interesting idea and is realizable with appropriately precise metadata. Yes. I'm not a good tagger.

In other news, we do need to prune our tag tree (or is it more of a bush?) to remove inconsistencies . That's something I should start doing.

The actual problem here, in my opinion, is that 'history of microsoft' is a series title (or a show title) and shouldn't be used as a tag at all. Microsoft, History, Bill Gates ... those are good tags. "The History of Microsoft" isn't and is hard to type correctly the second time because it isn't a simple term it is in reality a title.

Agreed.

The hypothetical auto tagging algorithm would not create titles as tags. The general problem is that tag creation is in the human domain. It follows that transitive human properties will surface in the composition of tags by a human process.

It's isn't a problem, we have some great auto-tagging software from some 'Cyberdyne' company that will supposedly 'make all the decisions for us' and remove 'faulty human decision making' from our whole process.
