I tried it out yesterday, and it was alright. Significantly different results from Google... they seem strongly correlated with the result URL. Whether this is good or bad, I dunno.
Right now, I'm sticking with Google. It works, and it works well. Yahoo! is my homepage, and I use it when I'm too lazy to pull up google (which isn't that often). And MSN... well, they burned their bridge with the XFree86 fiasco.
At the moment, lots of people have been reporting problems with the new MS search. Not too surprising, as it is beta. The next time I'll use it will be when it's in proper release mode, and I'll reconsider it. But it will take a LOT to win me over from Google... I just don't have the need for anything else.
Where is the spellchecker thingy? I mean that IS a big deal for me on google, I love it. I wouldn't consider using this until they add that feature (not that I trust M$ to be unbiased anyway..)

Does anyone have any updated information on this?
A man charged with hacking into an Internet search company's computers to steal secrets in 2002 now works on search engine development for Microsoft Corp., the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Friday.
Suspect works at Microsoft
A Kirkland man arrested last week on allegations that he stole proprietary technology from the AltaVista search engine two years ago is a Microsoft Corp. employee who has been working on the Redmond company's MSN Search initiative.

Of course it still has to be determined if the person actually did what
he is accused of doing. Subsequently, if the outcome of the first is
affirmative then a determination if this person used any of what what
was gained in the current crop of work. Then if that is also
affirmative microsoft just opens up the check book and writes a check
with some number of significant digits.
In any case if the first question proves affirmative the guy should be
locked away and the key conviently lost. This kind of crap can sink a
small company completely putting honest people out of work, We see it
all the time in the country, ENRON, Adelphia, Tyco and other dinks. The
scope of what is aledged here is indeed smaller but just as offensive
and saddening. Its just fortunate that the affected company won't be
hurt financially by the allegations true or not where a smaller company
might be just as damaged even if the allegations are ultimately proven
false.
"he used a former co-worker's login to
hack into the system because he "was 'curious' about the evolution of
the source code after his departure.""
Even if he did steal code from
Altavista, what good would it do MSN? Altavista got its ass kicked by
Google. No point in copying the loser...
