IE: IDownloadManager not long for this world?

In preparing to launch into a fun personal project of mine I've noticed that there is an absolute dearth of information on msdn.com about IDownloadManager. I am left to wonder:

  • Why is MSDN support for IDownloadManager so scarce?
  • Does IDownloadManager work in XP SP2 and later?
  • Did IDownloadManager become a security liability?
  • Will IDownloadManager be going away with IE 7?
  • Did IDownloadManager already go away?
Curious minds want to know... I'm looking to provide my own download manager for IE (not just the web browser control).

They have the Internet on computers now?
It seems that alot of things about IE are like hidden in the basement. IMHO it is one of the hardest pieces of software to easily extend - My thoughts is that there should be a better framework for making add ons for IE, it would be great!Perplexed
