I'm currently designing a Windows Forms application using Visual Studio 2005 (VB.NET) and SQL Server.

When the user encounters an error or has a problem, I'd like them to be able to raise an issue in an issue tracking database which already exists in SharePoint Services. I could just navigate to the create new form URL on the SharePoint site in a browser window but it would be nice to be able to populate fields with data we already know (Application Name, Version, Form Name, Error message, etc).

Has anyone had any experience doing this?

Alternatively...
Can I convince VS2005 to use SharePoint as a Data Source and so use ADO.NET?

I've looked at the Web Services interface for SharePoint and it looks quite fiendish to someone who doesn't delve into XML unless he really has to.
