two sides to everything
ASP.NET 2.0 User Account .. Not seeing it. Already tried reinstalling .NET. Anyone have any ideas?
Note that the name is different on WinXP and Win2003.

On WinXP it's ASPNET, while on Win2003 it's NetworkService.

Anyway, if you see aspnet_wp.exe running on WinXP, or w3wp.exe on Win2003, you should be fine.

That's what it says on Microsoft's support site, yet on one of my WS2003 boxes there's an "ASPNET" user object. I don't know how it got there.

My other server doesn't have it though, and they're got nearly identical configurations.

Is one upgraded from Windows 2000?

Good point, that's a possibility, it's a server over in California, rented from iPower.

Yes, the account is created when you run "aspnet_regiis - i" but is not actually used to run the worker process.

May I just ask why the .Net 2.0 did not create the ASPNET account?

Yes, I am aware that it is replaced with the NETWORK SERVICE account but what I'd like to know is why?

Any inputs on this will be much appreciated and if possible may you site your references.

Thank you very much.

My name has 9 letters. Coincidence? I think not...
Asking the same question in more than one thread does not increase the likelihood of it getting answered, and may even be considered rude.
