i ran a fresh install of windows xp MCE. i mainly just wanted the operating system for programming and have no plans for using the media center features. are there any ways of disabling media center to regain space or gain back some system processes?

Sometimes I think you are joking.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. For gods sake buy a bigger hard drive or a faster CPU.

Stop wasting your time worrying about saving 10Mb of disk space here or a cpu cycle or 2 there.

If you are not using MCE then just disable the ehome processes using msconfig, and perhaps next time consider just installing MS DOS on your machine. You won't get much done, but it won't use up much Ram/CPU/HDD.
