What's up, ya'll? Long time no see.

I am installing SQL Server 2008 developer ed. Everytime I get about 3/4ths of the way through the install I get and error msg that says:

the following error has occured:
the system cannot find the path specified

I haven't been able to find anything online to support this issue.

I have Visual Studio 2008 installed, but no SQL express.

Thanks for your help!

Sara,

You got those problems from RAM module. Replace or re-install properly.

My name has 9 letters. Coincidence? I think not...
Assuming this is a downloaded ISO, have you tried re-downloading and re-burning it? It sounds like corrupted install media to me.

Maybe try deleting all the installation that SQL Server 2008 installs on your hard drive before attempting a re-install, although I'm really just throwing ideas around here.

???
this may not be the problem but here is one thing i ran into:

there are a number of depends between SQL 08 and VS 08 in some cases folks have had to pull vs 08 and any express installs of a machine and uninstall .net 3.5 before sql 08 would install.

I hope you do not have that case but just fyi that it can happen.  seems like the sql installer may freak if it finds sp1 bits already on the box.

in my case it halted much sooner in the install and I had to do a massive re-load to get it working.

Before C# there was darkness...
I have noticed wierd install and run issues with 64bit software and some of the bugs are not as well covered as with 32bit.  So much so, I don't think 64bit is worth the extra issues (unless you absolutely need it for the larger RAM area).  Is the OS 64 bit also, I assume so or you should have failed earlier.  It error looks like some dependentcy has not been loaded first.
Are you installing from a disc you've burnt or from a virtual ISO mount? I've seen funky errors like this when installing from a virtual drive, but then again I've also known Nero to burn discs which do something similar. The usual course of action in these kinds of situation is often to try whichever one it is you aren't currently doing. Tongue Out
