IE, Gadgets, and WPF Internet Browser.

Are they using the same rendering engine? When I install a new IE, the Gadgets looks different (like tiny fonts). And how about the WPF Internet Browser? Are they all running the same engine as IE is using? If I turn off IE, does Gadgets still works? Are Gadgets and WPF Internet Browser dependent to IE?

It is concerning since the Windows 7 EU (Ewww version) has no IE, thus, I don't know if Gadgets and WPF Internet Browser will work or not.

It's quite simple. IE (iexplore.exe) is a browser "application". It creates a window, adds some toolbars and some tabs  and that's all, it doesn't deal with page downloading or rendering. That's handled by libraries/components like wininet.dll (for HTTP), mshtml.dll (for HTML/CSS) and jscript.dll for JS.

If something gets removed from the Windows install that's the browser application and not the libraries. Stuff like the WPF browser control will continue to work normally because they only need the libraries.

That's pure speculation though. I haven't seen any confirmation from Microsoft that mshtml.dll etc will be in Windows 7E if you don't have IE installed. Part of me thinks they should deliberately omit them to make a point about why being forced to ship a version of Windows without IE is dumb.

Yes, it's speculation but I doubt that the libraries will ever be removed because doing that will break all kinds of things. And while I too think it would be kind of fun for them to make a point that's rarely how a bussines works.

I see, at least I don't have to worry application breaks when IE is not installed. So in reality, I can make a simple WPF browser for the stupid Win7 Ewww version. Or at least make a gadget for it.

Yeah, but to be honest I really wouldn't worry about it anyway. The chances of OEMs shipping Windows without IE included are probably somewhere in the range of slim to none anyway.
