I've create an account for each family member on our media center, but I would like to create a "media center" account. The goal of that account would be to lauch media center and nothing else and log off when you quit media center. I have found in the media player options a way to start it when windows start for an account, but it's not what I want.

Is it possible ?

Have you tried just setting the shell for an account to Media Center?

Like this? http://www.mediacenterguides.com/shell_replacement

That doesn't seem to get the "close media center and log off" behavior the OP wants.

Yeah, wasn't 100% sure on that, been ages since I had to do anything similar. However, it should be easy enough to set the shell to a batch file that does the necessary. Something like:

start /wait <path to media center executable>

shutdown /l

That way when media center exits, the batch file will kick back in and log you off.

That's not foolproof: you can CAD from within MCE then kill the process executing the batch, then you're free to kill the MCE process.

I googled around for "media center kiosk" and the suggestion is to use SteadyState. Combine that with Group Policy and you'd be set.

Well I was under the impression it would mostly be a "this would be a neat thing for home" rather than "I need a 100% bulletproof media center kiosk"
