Will Avira AntiVirus Personal software work with Windows 7, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions?

It works with Vista. But then again it doesn't support Windows 7 yet. So my money is on "try it and see."

The Windows AV APIs aren't exactly common knowledge so I can't speculate on any changs that might have been made between the two releases. Although drivers from Vista work great on 7.

From what I remember during the beta I think several people mentioned using it, I can't recall hearing anything about trouble.

I've read good things about Avira AntiVirus and would like to try it, but I don't want to mess things up on this Windows 7 machine, either. As an alternative to Avira, would AV programs work well with Windows 7?

An alternative to Avira Personal? I switched to MSE this week and no complaints so far.

You can remove AV from Safe Mode even if it blue screens you back to back, so worst case scenario pencil in a few minutes to put back whatever you have on the machine at the moment.
