Repair PTP

Bam, Bam! Bam, Bam Bam!
I have a client that just bought a new Canon SD 400 which comes with no connection software.  The camera is supposed to use PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) to connect to Windows.  We of course this doesn't work.  The camera just shows up as an unknown device.  Canon doesn't offer a driver so I'm wondering if there is a way to repair it without reinstalling Windows.  Does anyone know of a way to do this or ran into this and fixed it somehow?

On a scale of 1 to 10, people are stupid.
I found a link for drivers here.  I've had problems with canon drivers in the past and at one point, I found that the problem was caused by a conflict between a canon scanner and the canon camera software.  They were both fighting over who's Twain driver was correct. 

Unfortunately, I couldn't solve the issue and had to reinstall XP.

I've been there too.  The only thing you can get from there is wallpaper and firmware.  I'll continue searching and if I find anything I'll post the solution in case anyone else has this problem.

At the top of the page ScanIAm linked to is a link that says "Drivers/Software". In there you can download new TWAIN and WIA drivers. Have you tried those?

Yes I have but as I stated, this is an XP machine.  There are no drivers for XP, it uses PTP.
