Look, no errors.
I'll have to hold judgement until I get Vista Smiley
It really depends on what you define "best" as. If you base "best" on "it just works" then my vote goes to Solaris. Once properly configured, it just works and keeps going. Something that cannot be said for a Windows Server machine. However, Solaris's use on the desktop is not ideal.

Once someone ports Wolrd of Warcraft to Solaris, I'm good! Smiley

oops.  I want to change my vote to Singularity - I did not see it in the list Smiley

This is how it feels when you do not upgrade to the latest technology...
I voted Windows 1.0 (which I never came across, I guess it would be Windows 3.1), other OSs I have tried but not to the point of considering it as the best OS.  Presently I am using Win2K.Prof, so going good and near to best from almost 5 years. Smiley

Which version of Vista? Smiley

aim stupidly high, expect to fail often.
The latest is always the best, but best of all time is far too difficult. I'll have to wait for the end of time before telling you Tongue Out
It's a shame not to see VAX/VMS on the list. Apart from my obvious bias towards Windows, I'd give it my clear vote. The DCL shell remains one of the most orthogonal yet powerful environments I've ever come across, the clustering support was years ahead of its time, and even in the early 1990s, a single cluster could support hundreds of users simultaneously. Add in a great collaborative email system in All-In-One, and a LAN Manager compatible file server in DEC Pathworks, and it really was a good all-rounder.

Classic! We need more videos with Bill Hill!

I were a bit split between Singularity and Vista.

But i went for Singularity, as i think its cool(Id LOVE to get my hands on it for sure), but Vista is also love

I voted other because I can't choose.  Techology is one of my big loves.
I guess I'm a geek otherwise I'd be able to make a choice. Even if a neighborhood kid would come to me with his home-made OS that couldn't do much more than giving me a command line, I'd be as excited as with the newest MS, Linux or whatever release.

Yep, there are a few good operating systems missing. You can relive the VAX/VMS experience complete with clustering with SIMH and the OpenVMS Hobbyist License. I had two virtual VAXen clustered running on one physical machine. It's pretty cool stuff.
I voted other... and that other was Plan9

Amiga !!!

IMHO a lot of what we see today in Vista and the Mac and in UNIX was done by the Amiga OS long before the rest....

it was small, it multitasked, it had multiple processors (like todays GPU cards)

the Amiga's hardware and OS allowed for running a PC with dos / windows on a card and it also ran Mac OS 7 with a set of rom chips.

so the AMiga had multiple machines in one box, hardware, multimedia and many other things that we are only just getting on PC and Mac systems....

also the NewTek Video Toaster that was later "ported" to the Mac!

and the guy who built several of the chips who also did one of the first pacemaker chips Jay Miner (if I recall the name correctly).

Now if MSFT had bought Amiga .... Hmmmm....
as much as I like vista , I like os x more but it was pretty close.

Vista is great of all time.

I use both Vista and Mac OS. I must say that both are pretty cool. But being the geek that I am, I've chosen Singularity. Simply because of the actual innovation in terms of OS design.

What's up homeslice?
I'd have to say "Longhorn" before reset... with the spiffy real sidebar and winfs... too bad they never completed it in its original form, but since Vista grew out of it, I voted for Vista... which rox my sox!

Vista is rapidly growing on me, but for "all time", I'd have to say OS/2 Warp. Vista could eclipse it in time.

'Other' -- DOS 6.22!  Followed closely by XP, then 2000.

Vista makes my mouse  and audio perform all choppy on a brand-new dual-core system; and it keeps asking permission every time I tell it to do something. There should be a "Never bother me again about petty things like this" checkbox. Command prompts should always run as an administrator.  I should have the option to always run everything as an administrator. It's my computer, I'll take the risk.

Anyone want my license?
