VFP, believe it or not that is a Microsoft Product.
It would have to be perl and java tied for first and VB a very close second.  As an administrator perl is my best friend.

W-hat?
C++/CLI since I played around with it.
Python, C++ using STL and Boost libs, Java in that order. Im trying to take a closer look at Lisp, but think it is of limited use since its lacking good interfaces  for GUIs and stuff. (No, I dont use Emacs.)

Whoever missed HTML and CSS - they are languages, but not programming languages. I would have nominated SQL too, but its not turing complete.

C++ for the hardcore DirectX/OpenGl programming plus its OS indepency and C# because it's veeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrryyyy fast and powerfull

i think it's C++;. well, that's the prog language i'm much familiar to...

Shouldn’t C# and VB.NET be the same button, I mean, they are pretty much the same language. And with VS2005, both IDEs support almost the exact same things.

I'm actually astonished that nobody has pointed out yet, that DHTML isn't a programming language either. Nor even a language. It doesn't have a syntax, it's a mixture of technologies.

Anyway, favorite language would be C#, Digital Mars D and JavaScript, in no particular order. Smiley

VB.NET is the ultimate rapid development tool, and therefore has my vote.

Well, now that we have the .NET Framework, what's the difference in the ease of developing apps with C# and VB.NET? It's all about syntax. And it's obvious that the VB.NET source files are bigger than their C# equivalents Tongue Out

Peace! Smiley
This is a tough one. If you were asking about markup languages then I would say XHTML. As far as compiled languages go I would say C# (at the moment) as my experiences with VB.NET and Java have made it easier to learn and I like it's features. However, I'm still a big fan of VB.NET. For scripting languages I would say Bash (the Linux shell scripting language).

If it's not a turing reducible language, it doesn't count.  HTML and CSS are just data representation.  Can you multiple two numbers using HTML?  DHTML is an overarching technology that comprises different things.  Javascript is the only part of it that is actually a programming language.

And...ASP just sucks.  Thank goodness for ASP.NET.  =)
Depending on what I'm doing, my favourites are Perl, C#, C++, C and Assembly.  Overall favourite is definately C# - it's the perfect balance of simplicity, flexibility and speed.  I'm just starting to learn Haskell now - my first functional language - but I don't know enough of it yet to say weather it'll be a favourite for anything.
Since I am old-school Delphi programmer since version 1, I gotta vote for "other" in that list.

The IDE for Delphi 2005 is a little bit of a mess right now, but it I hope it will be worked out.

Sexy me

Hello, I'm very new to object oriented programming, and .NET. With Visual Basic 2005 coming out soon, the differences between VB.NET and C# are going to be even smaller, besides syntax.

I came from a language unknown to most of the programming world: Euphoria. It is a really good language, but it lacks in development and probably wont join with the .NET languages (It isnt even object oriented). .NET or rather WinFX will obviously be very important in development in future versions of Windows.

I think Visual Basic 2005 and beyond will be the best for me. It is wordy, just the way I like it. I dont think I like C# much. It's syntax is too much like Java and C++. Plus more comfusing/ugly syntax will be introduced in C# 2.0 with generics, nullable types, etc.

MonoBASIC will mature and become more stable and compiliant, thus there will be a VB.NET language for Mono's Linux, Unix, MacOS X, BSD .NET framework like there is C#. Big Smile.

My favorite programming language is the one that fits whatever task I'm working on.  Seriously, I bounce between several (compiled and interpreted) and find likable things in all of them.  If I had to work with one language only (forever), I'd probably pick LISP, but only if I had to.
VBScript/SQL/DHTML/Javascript/HTML

I whined, and complained about having to learn 5 damned languages, to get a simple job done, for so long, and so loud, there isn't a chance in the world I'm switching.

It wound up being the combination that , I'd say in the PC area, I've done my best work.

Now, if you want to try real fun, try a nice machine tool control language.

Here you are talking to 40-120K  pounds of machine, cutting away at metal, producing parts that are consistent in size to, sometimes .0001".

You speak geometrically to the machine in dimensions, angles, speeds, and preparatory instruction codes, while compensating for machine temperature, part distortion, due to being worked, tool wear... programs are rarely "finished" as you're feedback in cycle time, and accuracy is immediate. They outa sell tickets, I tell ya...

Always on edge thinking...

C/C++ is my favorite, then C#.

You think you know me, but you don't!
Transact SQL is my language of choice!  I just wrote a 32,000 line query and it is great!!
