It was made to test the new GDI+ but without hardware acceleration I wasn’t pleased with results. Now, created with VB.NET 2005, a new remake of Mad Driver is being made, but this time using the Artificial Heart Game Engine that runs on managed DirectX. The work so far is wrapped together in this demo.

Artificial Heart Demo is created with free Artificial Engines, found on www.3dlevel.com. It features a sophisticated intro, showcasing the many effects of the engines. To throw in some nice functionality of my own, I’ve created a customizable menu system that can be easily used also for many other purposes, from intro titles to GUI elements. A track editor was made for editing the terrain and a stage class loads the data and renders the terrain.

I was hoping to include also some driving, but as the deadline is here I am submitting this to show that Visual Basic can indeed be used to create games. I’ve used a retro style of graphics in this demo, but only because of my personal preference. Modern looking games can also be made, just check out Bomboholic (www.bomboholic.com) also being made with the Artificial Engines and VB.NET!

Besides programming the demo I’ve also made all the art (3D models of the bridge, car, city in back …) and even mixed some music using DirectMusic Producer. However with all this things to do for just one person, music and all game play remains to be added into the actual game, although I’ve already made prototypes so the road to completion is not that long any more.

The game launcher is also fully functional and allows you to select graphics setting, music mode and redefine keys. However, only the graphics setting have effect in this demo.

I hope you enjoy watching the sunrise and that someone will also be inspired to create high profile 3D games using VB.NET!

<evnet:views>5722</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/22450/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Back when first .NET studio was released I recreated one of my early games called Mad Driver. When you receive a call, a transparent notification window pops up over your desktop and a ring wave sound is played. If you have caller ID, CallerPC can also speak aloud the name and number of the person who is calling you using MS Speech API (SAPI). It can also notify you via email when new calls are received.

CallerPC uses property grids to allow you to configure the look and feel (fonts, colors, images) of the call notification popup window, as well as the "ring" wave sound and the voice to use when speaking the caller information. You can also configure the modem(s) or telephony devices to monitor for incoming calls.

The CallerPC project includes re-usable managed TAPI classes that you can use to build your own Telephony-enabled applications.

<evnet:views>4571</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/22094/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>CallerPC is an application that lives in your system tray and uses the MS Telephony API (TAPI) to notify you of incoming phone calls.
