Now only if they would backport something useful like the accessories or the XPS COM API or the updated WIC or WDDM 1.1. Even a Windows Desktop Update for Vista would be awesome. Why no WMP12, RDP 7.0 or MSI 5.0 for Vista users? A less annoying UAC or DNSSEC? XP users got so much with the release of Vista. Poor Vista users are ripped off at almost every occasion.

In example, we can see it is a glue over the MFC UI. So, why not nding the MFC? Like the last version in VS2008 that include the
"old" version of Ribbon ;-)

COM is good, but heavy and more complex, but for sure, give an open door for managed code!

Implementing the ribbon into Windows 7 and back-porting to Vista, is a great way to increase adoption rate but experiencing the not so graceful downgrade to windows classic, I am not sure how well it will be adopted by enterprise or server users. Also how flexible will it become to customise the colours and styles of the ribbon for companies which at present style or custom draw their UIs.

It was nice to see an in depth look at how ribbons are formed, and good to hear the Fluent UI guidelines are being relaxed.
