	<description>The boys at Coding4Fun really out-did themselves this time. They created Kinect-Driven Pneumatic Boxing&amp;nbsp;Robots and showed them off to the party-goers at last nights opening party for the SXSW Interactive track, host by Frog and Microsoft. Essentially 2 humans each use their own Kinect to control the boxing bots inside the ring. The crowd LOVED this party centerpiece and I must say I want a bot of my very own. While I did joke safety third, the motor controllers have a kill switch, we have ref mode, the tanks have pressure relief valves so they can't be over-filled, all the gauges and electronics are in &quot;safe&quot; areas where they can't get hit or driven into.&nbsp; The bases are basically tanks.&nbsp; 4 hours of people slamming them into one another and they only have a few scratches <img src='http://ecn.channel9.msdn.com/o9/content/images/emoticons/emotion-1.gif?v=c9' alt='Smiley' /></p><p>posted by Clint</p>]]>

			<![CDATA[<p>@<a href="/posts/Boxing-Bots-at-South-by-South-West#c634671643914489192">bystander</a>:&nbsp; Rick did the UX and some kinect stuff.&nbsp; Brian Peek did the networking stack / kinect stuff.&nbsp;</p><p>You have to remember, the two robots were built in 1 month with 3 guys working on the entire project with other things that had to get done on top of the robots.&nbsp; Lots of wiring, lots of figuring out stuff on the fly, lots of &quot;how are we going to make this rock solid&quot;.</p><p>When doing projects like this, we have multiple considerations like cost of parts, durability of parts, can we program said part on the fly, can we get the part in time, how hard is it to hot swap the part, ...&nbsp;</p><p>Remember, we basically had a <span>demolition </span>derby going on.&nbsp; Everything had to be extremely industrial and rock solid.</p><p>posted by Clint</p>]]>
