Don Syme: Introduction to F#, Part 1

Mike Hall caught up with Don Syme recently and recorded a few interviews covering Don's favorite programming language: F#.  F#???

Don has done many great things over there in MSR Cambridge including creating everybody's favorite C# feature, Generics. Well, he also developed (with his team) the "research" programming language, F#.

"F# is a programming language that provides the much sought-after combination of type safety, performance and scripting, with all the advantages of running on a high-quality, well-supported modern runtime system."

Part 2 will air tomorrow and will contain lots of F# demo code (for those who have expressed dismay that there are no samples in part one, which is, as titled, an introduction....)

Heh, my head just explodes at most of the samples I've seen. I'm sure they wrote them as abstract as possible without actually explaining 'what the input and output and use of the code is for' is on purpose. But I'm sure this is very useful for some instances where traditional OOP just makes it a nightmare or impossible.

It's hard to "get" F# the first time you see it because it is so different from C#. I encourage you to download the  F# compiler, play with the samples, and try to write something with it. Feel free to send questions my way, or to The HubFS-- http://cs.hubfs.net , or to the F# mailing lists.

Has this video been removed?  Whenever I try to watch it or download it, I get an error from media player telling me that the file can't be found.  I can watch other videos (e.g. the recent interview with Don Syme), but I can't get to this one or "Introduction to F#, Part 2".

I know I'm probably the only guy out there that hasn't seen this video, but any help would be appreciated.
