Troubleshooting Windows SMB/SMB2 Issues
Hongwei Sun, Escalation Engineer, presented a session covering Debugging Tools for Windows that can be used for troubleshooting Windows at the 2009 File Sharing Windows Protocols Plug-fest.   Hongwei answered windows debugging questions as well.   Examples of how to use Windbg Windows SMB issues were explained.   Tracing calls with Windows ETW and IDNA tracing were demonstrated.  Provided a demonstration of a few resource kit tools commonly used for Windows debugging as well as some sysinternals tools (process monitor & filemon).[more ]

Peer Content (Branch) Caching and Retrieval Presentation
Randy Danielson, Senior Development Engineer Test,  presented a discussion of the branch cache protocol documents that are new for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 at the 2009 File Sharing Windows Protocols Plug-fest and answered questions as well.  The MS-PCCRC, MS-PCCRR, MS-PCHC and MS-PCCRTP documents cover these protocols and they are referenced by the MS-SMB2 protocol document.  These  new documents and the updates to the related documents are to be delivered in an upcoming Windows Protocol Document release.[more ]

File Access Services Systems Overview Presentation
Randy Haagens, Principal Architect, presented this new systems overview document and answered questions at the 2009 Active Directory Windows Protocols  Plugfest.     MS-FSSO, to be delivered in an upcoming Windows Protocol Document release, specifies how the protocols that comprise the offerings from Microsoft are used together to provide File Sharing Systems.[more ]

Server Message Block (SMB2.1) Drill-down
David Kruse, Pricipal Development Lead,  presented a discussion of Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 updates to the MS-SMB2 protocol document including the 2.1 dialect at the 2009 File Sharing Windows Protocols Plugfest and answered questions as well.  MS-SMB2 protocol document updates are to be delivered in an upcoming Windows Protocol Document release.

Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 Overview
Michael Hawker, Program Manager, presented an overview of Netmon 3.3 protocol analyzer  (a Windows-based utility) as well as a question and answer session at the 2009 File Sharing Windows Protocols Plugfest.   Michael also demonstrated protocol analysis scenarios including parser usage, filtering and using netmon for troubleshooting file sharing issues.   Download Netmon 3.3.[more ]

MS-DISO Presentation
Pilar Ackerman, Senior Program Manager, presented an Active Directory system overview and discusses this system overview document at the 2009 Active Directory Windows Protocols  Plugfest.  Richard Ward, Distinguished Engineer, answered protocol interoperability questions.    MS-DISO, to be delivered in an upcoming Windows Protocol Document release, specifies how the protocols that comprise the offerings from Microsoft are used together to maintain a relationship with the domain.   It also…[more ]
