In this video, Microsoft CVP Steve Guggenheimer introduces the new hardware devices that will be offering Windows Phone 7. There's tactile keyboards, slide out speakers, surround sound, enhanced cameras, scratch resistance screens, and more. Check out the phones from Dell, LG, HTC & Samsung.

Here's another look at the phones

Awesome, really pleased that some of the new phones have more than the 8GB pre-production phones and the larger screens (such as the HTC HT7) are going to make some apps easier to use.

(I'm using my own app http://rd3d2.wordpress.com/songster on a smaller screen - it is usable but I find myself using the zoom a lot more than I would prefer!)

Nice phones, but carrier support is SEVERLY lacking. Not having the phones on Verizon and Sprint at launch is a bad decision that will further hurt Microsoft in the phone market.

  • What happened to windows mobile?  I worry that MSFT is using windows phone as a way to lock customers into using bing and windows live. Better to focus on writing great software. Let customers decide what they want to use.

What about XNA support? No gaming demos? No app store? C'mon guys, catching up isn't good enough. You have to OUTDO Google and Apple at this point.  You should be showing off multiplayer gaming, augmented reality (overlays), remote access, app store integration, ecommerce enablement and a whole lot more.
As a Windows developer who can write using C# and Mono on any other platform, I'm not seeing much pull to work on the Windows Mobile 7 platform.
    Give us the juice!

@Craig Berntson:  Microsoft is also working on CDMA version and it is likely to be ready in 2nd quarter of 2011.

@Randy: Randy, XNA support for Windows Phone 7 has always been there.  Zune Marketplace is there as well.

Have you tried the development tools for WP7?

  • @Craig Berntson: I agree completely.  I would have thought they would target all the places the iPhone cannot go before it does go.

I can't figure out why Zune and Windows Phone 7 are separte platforms.  I was told that applications from one can't be just recompiled for the other platform.

Ho Hum. A few bells and whistles but just another also ran in the smartphone race. Poor carrier choice. These phones will not outdo iPhone or Android. I predict that the phones will see to some but will lag behind in the market place.

  • I really hope that Microsoft plans on a big give away of WP7 phones at PDC 2010. That would be awesome. Why not follow in Google's footsteps Microsoft?

@Kathy Fine:Right on! I will hate to see what Bulmer will do next.

@Ian2: Songster looks really cool.  Can I add my own samples?

Demos on www.windowsphone.com look very nice.
I hope to see slates running WP7 soon.
I like the fact that it will be available on AT&T since it works much better in California than many other carriers in California. AT&T has a decent coverage in very remote areas, which is nice when you are on some rarely used mountain road trying to find way home :)

  • I really wanted one that looked exactly like the emulator, I guess my pick is the Samsung Omnia 7.  I'm a little worried as it's the European version, does that mean it won't ever make it over to Canada.  I do like the one with DLNA, that is a great feature.  I'll have to see what eventually makes it way to Canada.

Someone let this guy know Super AMOLED isnt a type of glass, he comes across uninformed or uneducated about the division he works for.

  • I see the app has a name now. The name and the logo don't make it sound like a sequencer app. Songster sounds more like it has to do with lyrics or something, not drum machines, beats and loops.

  • Damn, I just got a new phone a few months ago. I can't get these. I am even on AT&T. Not cool Sad

I love the Zune integration and the UI there. DLNA enabled .... man. Oh well. Two more years of yearning.

Is there at least one QWERTY device that has keys like the apostrophe? I mean, not needing to press multiple keys. These are signs that have a higher frequency than many letters...

  • This kind of thing turns me off as a consumer. A big litter of similar phones with no clear winner = I won't buy any of them.

For Canadians you can go here

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-ca/buy/7/phones.aspx

to see some of the phones that will be available soon. 4 featured are, HTC 7 Surround, LG Optimus 7, LG Optimus Quantum, and Samsung Focus.

I think the Samsung Focus can take a MicroSD card up to 32 GB to boost storage up to 40 GB. Though a factory reset has to be done.
