Alec Wolman is a senior researcher in the Networking Research Group at MSR. Alec has been working on a difficult problem; how to get the most from mobile computing devices. This involves several other problems; mobile computing devices often don't have the horse-power to drive computation-heavy applications and even as Moore's Law increases the capabilities of processors, there is no equivilent curve for battery technology. So Alec created MAUI: Mobile Assistance Using Infrastructure. I talked to him about the project here.

Interesting. With MAUI, maybe I can look forward to the day that our Windows Home Server can do some heavy lifting.
