We ran into Bert Keely, one of the visionaries behind the Tablet PC (he's an architect on the Tablet PC team), recently at dinner and he started showing us how he had souped up his Tablet PC.

"Wait, stop, let us film this," we said. And here's the resulting video.

He's the fastest Tablet PC user we've met. Do you know anyone who can work faster with a pen?

He's showing off some of the features of the new Tablet PC 2005 Edition (which ships with Windows XP Service Pack 2).

Oh, and yes, we want to know what the secret is to getting a Tablet PC manufacturer to give you a better screen. We guess that's one advantage of being an architect on the Tablet PC team!

Bert Keely's tips are good. What other Tablet mods have you seen?

I have installed the Tablet OS on a Sony U-70 with a passive digitizer. The enhancements with XP SP2 are just great. Having a tiny handheld Tablet PC is just a mind blowing experience! I wrote a review of this on my blog and just recently an article detailing how I use this littlest Tablet which you can find here:

Great, Kendrik!
I was just curious about installing WindowsXP TabletPC edition on VAIO U70.
I did not realize you could remove the overlay.  Has anyone done this?  Particularly on the m205?

Wow he's fast! Any idea how long he's been working with tablets?
JK - I really liked your blog post. I saw it the other day when Layne, Loren, Evan and some others linked over to it. It'd be great if Sony offers Tablet PC Edition 2005 as a purchase option.

I'm curious how many people are interested in Tablet mods. We've been talking about a Tablet Event for pre-CES time period and have Tablet mods listed as a session. Anyone interested, please feel free to add ideas to the Channel9 Tablet PC Event wiki.

Thanks!  I think the OS should be commercially available.  There are a bunch of handhelds with digitizers going to be released and Tablet PC is a natural for these devices.  I've found that the Sony benefits perhaps MORE with the Tablet extensions because it's so small than a larger device might.  It's a powerful combination, for sure.

I tried to watch the video, but it isn't working for me.  It says that there is a problem with the network settings.  I am able to play Windows Media files from other sites, though.  Am I doing something wrong?  I'd really like to see this video!
