The new Speech API is included in the latest Avalon bits that were just released last week. Robert Brown, here in this video, talks about the latest in speech and gives us a demo, and on his blog gives us a bunch of the relevant details, including how you can download the latest bits and try this stuff for yourself.

If you've ever wanted to build an application that responds to your voice, this video covers the basics.

What about other languages? Will Longhorn (or the Speech API) support European languages as well?
I spy with my little eye, something beginning with ipod Wink

Possibly my favourite application that uses the current speech API has to be valve software's face poser technology for half life 2.
Have you tried out the goblet yet Scoble?

My name has 9 letters. Coincidence? I think not...
Interesting stuff. I've used the COM SAPI in some of my managed apps, can't say it was *that* difficult to do, but a purely managed API would still be nice.

I'm rather disappointed it still needs the old recognizers. When are we going to see some new recognizers, surely there's been advances there too?
Any comparison with MS Speech Server 2004?  BTW, that product is quite cool...

The lesser of two Sampys (in age only).
The switchboard demo reminded me. Have any of you Channers activated a product on the phone before? It's an automated system just like that. Being a real geek, I probably think it's way cooler than it actually is, but hey - I got a big kick out of it. Next time you activate, try it over the phone!

Scoble, can you do a telephone interview with Steve Ballmer that way? Put the camcorder on your desk, press that button on your phone and say: "Dial Steve Ballmer". Tongue Out

Did he say that you can flash your Audiovox SMT 5600 to the new Windows Mobile 5? Is this something that only Microsoft employees will be able to do, or will Cingular support the same thing?

The SMT 5600 will not have a official flash for WM 5.0 this was said by cingular... yet all the demo's for WM 5.0 have been on the SMT 5600... WHY I ASK WHY !!!! I just want to be able to build bluetooth apps on WM 5.0 for my SMT 5600..... We need the rom !!!!
