Bob Familiar interviews David Platt, CEO of Rolling Thunder, on why today’s software sucks. There’s no other good way to say it. It’s unsafe, allowing criminal programs to creep through the Internet wires into our very bedrooms. It’s unreliable, crashing when we need it most, wiping out hours or days of work with no way to get it back. And it’s hard to use, requiring large amounts of head-banging to figure out the simplest operations. In his book, David Platt explains why this is the case and, more importantly, why it doesn’t have to be that way.

Great post.  A major misconception or miscategorization is that the decision makers for software is invariably a developer; however, most developers follow specs more than their hearts and minds.  It sucks that developers take the brunt of non-ideal business decisions.

Great video quality and nice watch! Angel

I never heard of David Platt prior to reading this book. His title as a Harvard professor in software design prepared me for a dry and technical book on software design. I'm happy to say there is nothing 'dry' or boring about Mr. Platt's writing style. The book is easy to read and you'll find yourself nodding along with the examples he gives. Why do we accept poor software design? I failed to even recognize bad software until Mr. Platt specifically pointed it out. At which point, I smacked myself in the head and said "of course!"

In this regard, Platt did not disappoint. While essentially reaffirming much of the knowledge and many of the beliefs I held regarding software development and the truly creative people who do it for a living, the author tossed out enough new thoughts, peppered with a sense of humor welcome enough to keep me engaged. Individuals not familiar with the process of software development will no doubt find the content even more illuminating. The author is spot-on in his assessment of where software developers go wrong, having witnessed it myself over many years in product development.

Your article was so wonderful, and I would also like to share something. Christian Louboutin. This pleated peep-toe shoe features open sides, a platform sole and pleating all over. These shoes use similar pleating to the louboutin-fallwinter-collection ankle boots that we showed you last week. Christian Louboutin shoe platform sandals are very sexy and feminine.

Thanks for the video but I don't agree with the author personally. Yes some software is buggy but I couldn't get by if I just avoided all software completely because of it.

Not all softwares these days are that bad. I do use some stupid software that never help me at all in doing my job. However, I agree that more software are crashing when we need them. Many software are also pirated so try use the genuine one which will reduce the risk for crashing.
