What an amazing history this company has had. The company went through some rough years to begin with but when they were able to license MS-DOS to IBM things really took off. The IBM PC took the world by storm despite its lack of power (my free ps3 has many times more power than even a supercomputer of years gone by) and its success took Microsoft along with it. In 1986 the company went public and made Gates a 31-year old billionaire. The year after the first version of Windows was introduced and by 1993 a million copies per month were being sold. The rest is history as they say.

Microsoft is one of the most inspiring companies ever built, it's shocking to think of what it's become! Who knew they where partners with Apple at one stage!

My first computer (well, it belonged to my parents, but anyway), was an MSX 2. :)

So I don't know about the US, but these things were definitely available in Europe.
