We're back with another update! This time we have a mix of content, including:

  • Sampy talking about SQL optimization using indexed views
  • Erik covering a relatively simple, but useful, web control and explaining a bit about how we build our UI components as he goes (and you can get the controls he demos right from here)
  • Sampy showing off the wiki, in a unskinned but functional state (like any good demo, we even included a surprise error!)
  • Me demoing nothing and generally blathering on in a managerial way

No comments in the source code?

Was there code in there that wasn't descriptive enough?  I'm open to suggestions if there was some confusion.  Smiley

We're a small team.  We're 3 devs (going to be 4 pretty soon).  If I don't understand how a piece of code works I walk next door or down the hall to get a better answer than any comment could ever do for me.

We will eventually be releasing the source code for our entire platform on CodePlex (this first sample was a really small independent piece I decided to extract from the platform [at 3 AM as usual and shipped it the next day]).  We will give it away with not many comments, no documentation and no setups or instructions.  We will not promise any sort of support.  The code will be yours to do with what you want.

The way we see it, there's more value in giving away the source code as is with no extra work on our end (other than some code cleanup before shipping it out) and letting you all figure out it and hack away at it and probably help each other figure it out than to not release it at all because we don't have the time or resources to commit to it.

So back to my original point...comments will never be a focus for us.  We're a small team.  Smiley
