The destruction of Hurricane Katrina required the largest mobilization of the Red Cross in its history. In the immediate aftermath of the hurricane thousands of victims were stranded and needed help. The Red Cross rose to this challenge quickly. Communications, logistics for supplies, mobilization of thousands of volunteers and securing shelter for the many thousands displaced were all achieved in a manner never possible before with the assistance of information technology. This is the story of the people and tools behind the scenes making the Red Cross work.
