John interviews Silverlight MVP David Kelley about developing multi-touch applications in Silverlight. David discusses the types of multi-touch hardware and his experiences in developing real world multi-touch applications. Then he jumps right into the
code and shows how to create a multi-touch application with Silverlight 3 or 4! The application David demonstrates walks through the key multi-touch events, handling those events, touch IDs, tracking the location of the touch points, and much more. Being a
sly devil, John even got David to commit to coming on the show again and demonstrating some advanced multi-touch samples and sharing his stories of how developers have broken their monitors using multi-touch!
David also calls out props to Tim Heuer and Davide Zordan!

here is a quick post to the SL3 code we used from Tim Heuer
http://timheuer.com/blog/archive/2009/07/30/silverlight-3-multi-touch-introduction-fundamentals-basics.aspx
this code converts easily to SL4 also here is a quick post more about the UX concepts used in multitouch

also the simon demo that includes multitouch (will have an SL4 version at MIX) that Davide Zordan and I worked on.

No complaints but what happend to one episode every 2 weeks ? Thats 3 this week alone
I think its an issue with getting it up and running
but that is a question for John
CKurt - The first week we are running a blitz of 3 episodes, then we are going to a weekly schedule up to Mix. We may have bonus shows occasionaly if there are announcements or something timely.
We just wanted to kick things off with a bang before switching to weekly.
Agreed! You need to calm down! We have enough on our plates with all of the 2010 releases and Cloud computing! More SL coding and less SL watching
But, thanks though!
Great stuff guys, especially enjoyed no 3 as I am currently attempting to improve the touch experience on my current site (FromTheMalverns.com).
Would it be possible to include some additional metatdata in the TITLE field of the downloads? (In a similar fasion to the MIX and PDC downloads). - This gets really useful when you pull the TITLE field into directorys full of videos in Explorer.
Ian2 - Glad you enjoyed the show. What informaiton would you suggest we add to the title? We can certainly make changes for the better
I was just thinking of a nice title EG:
FileName : SLTV3LearnMultiTouch_2MB_ch9.wmv
Title: : Silverlight TV Episode 3: Multi-Touch 101 with Silverlight
No biggy - but at the moment I have the title as the first item in my explorer window in my Silverlight videos directory - this works great for the ones I downloaded from PDC and Mix - but the titles for Silverlight TV don't exist so I get a blank space.
So to recap the filenames are great as they are, but if possible an entry in the metadata "title" field would be great,.
Will this work on silverlight mobile?
Can you please share more details on that hardware that supports up to 7 touch points? I am really interested. I find devices with only two touch point very limiting for development and testing.
I think we have to wait until after MIX to talk about Multitouch, Silverlight and Mobile 7
For the most part 2 touch points is all you need in most cases with one user. Even when you use multitouch systems like Surface that supports lots of touch points (surface for example supports way more then '6') In any case, theoretically HP touch smarts do 4 but all the drivers we keep get crap out at anything over 2 touch points. You might try something like this: (http://multi-touch-screen.com/product.html) but for dev purposes there are lots of dual touch point tablets, monitors and devices this year. (http://www.multitouchtabletpc.com/ )
a couple more great multitouch hardware links: http://multi-touch-screen.com/ and http://www.elektrosil.com/produkte/touchsysteme/real-multipoint-touch/
