Virtual PC (VPC) is truly a developer's and tester's best friend. Do you want to run a PC in a Window? Imagine having a virtual image for any product in Beta that does not impact your host machine. For those that are familiar with VPC, you might find some
of the settings of interest and how to create and use a dif file. If you are a presenter or teacher, you will love the automatic reset capability (undo). You will want to check this tool out, it is one that Stan and I both use every day.
What is it? Create and run one or more virtual machines on a single computer, each with its own operating system. Switch easily between them like switching applications.
Download Site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx
Example Problem(s) it solves:
Save time and money as Virtual PC allows you to maintain the compatibility of legacy and custom applications during migration to new operating systems and increases the efficiency of support, development, and training staffs.
Great for isolating Beta Software from your host machine, matching customer configurations, eliminate redundant hardware.
Installation Notes: Undo changes is not the default when setting up a VPC, apply Virtual PC 2007 SP1.
Usage Notes: When starting with a base image, consider making a dif file to keep the master pristine. Run as Admin on Vista.
This is the fifth of Tool Shed Tooltips released from Episode 2 of the TV Show Russ Tool Shed presents... "It's All About The Tools" hosted by Russ Fustino and Co-Host Stan Schultes. Download code, ppt and demo script from http://code.msdn.com/toolshed for all episodes. Also, use the links on http://channel9.msdn.com/toolshed to download tools.
