First, SaaS architecture follows directly from the fundamental principles of the business model. Second, a series of difficult technical problems must be solved in addition to providing the business functionality. These include certificate security, low-IT-capable clients, business continuity when connectivity is lost, provisioning of services, scalability as the number of clients increase, database design for clients, how to use virtualization, and how to integrate and release service functionality over several different client applications. Third, you have to effectively use the platform technology such as WCF and ASP.NET. If you approach building a SaaS application on these three levels, you can then leverage your work into new platforms such as Windows Azure.</evnet:previewtext>

<media:group>

</media:group>

<trackback:ping>http://channel9.msdn.com/498209/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

ARCast.TV - Clemens Vasters on Architecture Implications of the Internet Service Bus

Companies need infrastructure to integrate services for internal enterprise systems, services running at business partners, and systems accessible on the public Internet. He's been a part of some very interesting and innovative technologies over the years not the least of which is the CCR (he led the team that created it).</evnet:previewtext>

<media:group>

</media:group>

<trackback:ping>http://channel9.msdn.com/489309/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

Deploying Applications on Windows Azure

Windows Azure features a very powerful, yet simple deployment model. By focusing on your application and abstracting away the infrastructure details, you can deploy almost any app with minimal fuss.
But where do you start? Which applications and services should you be moving? How do you build the bridge between on-premises and the cloud? And more importantly, what should you be looking out for along the way? In this talk, learn architectural patterns and factors for moving to the cloud. Based on real-world projects, the talk explores building block services, patterns for exposing applications, and challenges involving identity, data federation, and management. Denny Boynton talks to Simon Guest about the tools and knowledge required to determine whether cloud computing is right for you, and where to start.

<evnet:views>21117</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/484904/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Everything that you read these days seems to suggest that you should be moving to the cloud.
Cloud applications are web-based distributed systems deployed over a fluctuating set of computing nodes and services. The design of cloud applications is particularly challenging because few assumptions can be made about the connectivity of nodes, the availability of services, and the long-term evolution of the computing fabric. Ethan describes a new approach to architecting cloud applications. His approach gives developers a powerful set of abstractions that they can use to engineer systems beyond a client-server architecture, while understanding the behavior of their applications in a cloud environment. This is part 1, where we introduce the basic concepts on the whiteboard.

Recently, Marc and his team integrated SQL Data Services into the product alongside the existing SQL Server backend. Marc demonstrates the seamless integration of cloud services and on-premises services provided by his product as well as talks about why he chose SQL Data Services to provide scale-free storage and query capabilities.

Marc's demo is pretty amazing - especially the CIFS implementation on top of SDS - allowing them to mount SQL Data Services as a drive in the sky.

<evnet:views>22122</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/440571/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>In this video, Ryan sits down with Marc Hoeppner, the Managing Director of NeoGeo and a Regional Director out of Germany. NeoGeo builds a media asset management system to coordinate things like versioning, searching, and storage of digital media assets called neoMediaCenter.NET.
