dezineforce offer a scalable, on-demand engineering design capability over the web. Backed by a powerful HPC cluster, their front-end web interface is currently built using HTML and AJAX. They were keen to explore opportunities to build an enhanced experience for their users.
In this video I chat to some of the people involved in the project to get their perspective on the project and the results.

<evnet:views>10256</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/493634/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>dezineforce (http://www.dezineforce.com) recently completed a proof-of-concept with Microsoft to look at how they could overhaul their user experience using Silverlight 3.

Well, in Wellington, it was called Expression for Art’s Sake. This was a bit of an ‘artist in residency’ program where Microsoft invited some companies to bring their developer and designer staff to this event to learn a little bit about Expression Blend 3 and Silverlight 3.
Grab the bits and play. Provide feedback. OK. That's the housekeeping stuff. Now, on to this conversation with Scott. We talk about many things in this interview and weave the deeply technical view on Silverlight 3 with more surface level perspectives. So, if you're looking for bite size marketing messages, this video isn't for you :)

What are the significant changes/improvements/inventions in Silverlight 3? Silverlight 2 brought the world a cross platfrom CLR. How has the CLR changed in Silverlight 3? Silverlight 3 enables Silverlight to run outside the context of a browser. What does this mean, exactly? Silverlight and Many-Core? What has the significant real world feedback been like regarding Silverlight 2 and how has it helped shape Silverlight 3? How do you work with the Moonlight folks, exactly (see Miguel's perspective on this as well)? And much, much more. This is a typically long Charles interview and we travel around The Gu's globe of knowledge (which is vast - he's an engineer at heart).

Thank you, Scott, for spending so much of your valuable time for a Channel 9 interview that should prove most interesting to many folks who watch and listen.

Grab the bits and play. Provide feedback. OK. That's the housekeeping stuff. Now, on to this conversation with Scott. We talk about many things in this interview and weave the deeply technical view on Silverlight 3 with more surface level perspectives. Bill Buxton is the author of Sketching User Experiences: Getting the Design Right and the Right Design, is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research and has a 30 year involvement in research, design and commentary around human aspects of technology, and digital tools for creative endeavors, including music, film and industrial design. Many of you have seen his keynotes over the years, which are always among the most popular and highest rated by conference attendees. It's no surprise that he will again headline at MIX this year. Wonder what he'll be talking about? We discuss this here (and he addresses what it's like to speak in front of a large audience - for people who know Scott, he's actually kind of shy. How nervous is he, anyway, when he steps on to the grand stage?). We also touch on Silverlight 3, the next iteration of the media streaming and web client managed platform Scott and team create. But we step back, too. How is Silverlight doing out there, anyway? Both developers and designers use the tools that Scott and team create. How's the Scott's vision of the developer-designer workflow working in reality?

Tune in. The Windows 7 Taskbar is a new application-launching and window-switching mechanism that consolidates the functionalities from previous Windows OS Desktop mechanisms such as Quick Launch, Recent Documents, Notification area icons, desktop shortcuts, and running application windows.

Watch Yochay Kiriaty, Windows 7 Technical Evangelist, and Taskbar product team designer Stephan Hoefnagels as we present the evolution of the Windows 7 Taskbar through the different design iteration cycles, and of course, we will see the famous “Bat Signal.”

Designing the Windows 7 Taskbar is one of a series of Channel 9 videos about the new Windows 7 Taskbar. Other videos include:

And for more technical content on Windows 7, along with a few cool code samples, go to the Windows 7 Blog for Developers.

If you missed the PDC sessions on the Windows 7 Taskbar, you can always watch their videos: Welcome to Windows 7 Taskbar and Integrate with Windows 7 Taskbar – but I know you already saw them few times. ;)

<evnet:views>51795</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/447061/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Windows 7 offers a new way of controlling your desktop, managing your windows, and launching applications.
