The Popfly team announced a number of updates including:
- A High score service for games
- Automatic Asset Prefetching. This will pre-load any supporting game files (images, videos, and audio) before the game starts for better, smoother performance.
- Rating System replaced with a Fan system - Instead of rating projects, you can become fans of them
- A page dedicated to discovering new Popfly games

Most importantly, have some fun with Crayon Cannon, the incredibly addictive Silverlight game built by Adam Nathan. The game shows off the High score service in action so you can see which of your friends has way too much free time on their hands :)

Popfly Game Creator Alpha is available today, and it's a brand new tool for building 2D games in Silverlight that requires zero programming to build games.

How easy is it to build games? Well in this interview Adam Nathan builds three games from scratch including

- A Space invaders clone (3:15 - 23:55)
- A 2D car game that plays like "snake" (23:55 - 37:51)
- A 2D side scroller with a Ninja fighting rocket chickens (37:51- 55:04)

Code To Live: Mark on Web 2.0 in the Classroom

Josh Holmes had the pleasure of catching up with Mark Frydenberg (aka CheckMark, a Senior Lecturer at Bentley College in ~~Boston~~ Waltham, MA. He has an interesting take on teaching computer science and is leveraging Web 2.0 techniques to teach his students about computer science. His efforts in the classroom were written up in this New York Times Article. Also check out his Popfly interview with Bob Familiar at Bob Familiar interviews Professor Mark Frydenberg of Bentley College of Massachusetts. Professor Frydenberg has created a course that leverages PopFly to teach software architecture and development to his business major students.

Professor Frydenberg's unique approach allows students to grasp complex distributed computing concepts, build and share sophisticated mashups while working with information (photos, news, music) that is relevant to them.
