Interview: BizSpark Startup Linxter

Linxter is a BizSpark startup that's changing the way that developers think about traditional middleware. Last week I caught up with Linxter CEO Jason Milgram, to talk about the company, messaging, and the BizSpark program.

Here's the company description from the Linxter web site:

Linxter is an information broker that enables and governs message-based data exchange between any .NET applications or services that can connect to the Internet. Using your existing .NET skills and Linxter, you can quickly and easily connect distributed apps and integrate distributed systems.

Xobni is an Outlook plug-in that lets users easily connect to their contacts through the various social networks. The program comes in two versions, one free and now a new pay version that ads enhanced features. I recently talked to Matt Brezina, one of the Xobni founders, about the product, about social networking, and about how being a BizSpark startup has helped Xobni build their product and their company.

Coworking for Startups

One of the issues that new startups often face is the where to work question. Do we build in the garage/basement, or do we go after some office space? One new alternative that's catching momentum nationwide is coworking. Coworking allows community members to share the costs of an office space that offers meeting rooms, connectivity, printers, and other amenities.

I talked to Chris Shultz, the founder of Launch Pad in New Orleans, about the coworking movement, Microsoft BizSpark, and about their new space in The Big Easy.

A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft launched a new program for Startups called BizSpark. Microsoft BizSpark is a global program designed to help accelerate the success of early stage startups by providing them with software, support and visibility. The BizSpark program was launched in Germany last week at the Xtopia conference – a German conference about web design, web business, user experience and technology. At the Xtopia, I had the opportunity to talk to Dan’l Lewin, Microsoft Corporate Vice President, about the BizSpark program for Startups. In this video, Dan’l tells me about BizSpark and offers some advice for people who are thinking about founding a Startup in this current economic environment.

BizSpark Details:

With the BizSpark program, Startups get access to Microsoft’s development tools, platform technologies, and production licenses of server products for immediate use in developing and bringing to market innovative and interoperable solutions with no upfront costs and minimal requirements. Professional technical support from Microsoft (MSDN) and community support from BizSpark Network Partners around the world is also included in the program as well as global visibility to an audience of potential investors, clients and partners.

BizSpark is available to Startups that are private company building a software-based product or service, in business for less than 3 years and have less than USD $1M in revenue. Participation in the program lasts up to 3 years.

StartupWeekend in San Francisco

StartupWeekend is a chance for the tech community to gather and create a company over one jam packed weekend.
