In this web cast i create a small windows application and test it with both Microsoft Test Manager and using a CodedUI Test in Visual Studio 2010. I go on to show how to edit the CodedUI test by adding assertions into the UI Map using the UI Control Map editor.

In this interview I sit down with Matt Gertz, frequent VB blogger and also the guy in charge of the builds in Developer Division (he has a long title, but I forget what it is :-)). He explains how the build and test processes work on a team of two thousand people all on Team Foundation Server. I must say it's pretty darn impressive. Many thanks to Matt for taking time out of his busy schedule to do this interview!

One of the core capabilities of Team Foundation Server is that of reporting - being able to correlate your source control with work items (bugs, requirements, etc.), builds, and people in a meaningful way can really help a development team steer a project towards a successful trajectory. But one of the challenges with Team Foundation Server today is that generating new reports, or even customizing existing reports, isn't as easy as it needs to be for most teams.

In this episode of 10-4, we will take a look at how Team Foundation Server 2010 will enable you to more easily generate dynamic reports that can give you quick insights into how your project is running. In just a few minutes you can create your query and use Microsoft Excel to quickly create a set of graphical reports based on your query. You can even save these reports and publish them to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server for easy access by the rest of the team.

This video is based on the September 2008 CTP, and there will be even more reporting features coming in the upcoming beta release of Visual Studio Team System 2010.

Allt fler arbetar med Team System och Team Foundation Server. Samtidigt upplever många att verktygets potential inte utnyttjas fullt ut. Team System har ett avancerat versionshanteringssystem med kraftfulla funktioner för bland annat parallell utveckling, integrerad byggautomatisering och kvalitetssäkring. Under detta seminarium går vi igenom nyckelfunktioner i TFS för att påvisa dess potential utöver ett vanligt källkodshanteringssystem.

Vi går även igenom hur man snabbt kommer igång med TFS, vilka fördelarna är framför andra källkodshanterare samt hur man bygger upp en bra struktur för sin källkod.

Med Team System kan metoder och processer kopplas till hur ändringar sker i systemet, för att på så sätt ge bra spårbarhet. I produkten finns också ett antal verktyg för mätning av kvalitén i den kod som skrivs. Med funktioner för byggautomatisering får man ett integrerat verktyg för att kvalitetssäkra processen från skriven kod till installerad produkt.

En funktion i Team System som ännu är relativt outnyttjad är möjligheten att få in databasutvecklarens arbete närmare utvecklingsprojektet. Vi tar en titt på hur databasprojekt kan integreras med källkodshanteraren och byggautomatiseringssystemet på ett naturligt sätt.

Vi visar även några av nyheterna kring källkodshantering som kommer med Visual Studio 2010.

Dynamics AX Version Control

While at the Convergence conference a while back I bumped into Michael Fruergaard Pontoppidan (Principal SDE) and Morten Jensen (Program Manager) from the Dynamics AX team. Both Michael and Morten are based at the Microsoft Development Center Copenhagen (MDCC) and have worked on Dynamics AX since the first release.

Morten and Michael worked on the version control feature in Dynamics AX. I more or less dragged them over to a table at the conference and grilled them on how it all works.

In AX 4 we first introduced version control with integration to SourceSafe. In AX 2009, we introduced Team Foundation Server (TFS) support as well as a MorphX VCS a low –end home-brew version control. Michael walks us through the MorphX VCS feature showing how it integrates Check In/Check Out functionality directly into AX environment. MorphX VCS is included with Dynamics AX. The target for this low-end VCS is VARs maintaining numerous client system customizations on the same code base.

Version Control is just one leg of the Dynamics AX team’s commitment to Engineering Excellence. They’ve also integrated unit testing and best practices policy enforcement. The Dynamics AX team uses this integration themselves integrating with Source Depot (an internal Microsoft versioning system). They are looking at moving to TFS.

In this interview, Ed Holloway, senior program manager for Team Foundation Server, talks about the changes his team is making. An early look at Team Foundation Build 2010 with Jim Lamb

In addition to being one of the nicest guys I know, Jim Lamb also knows a thing or two about build automation. Jim is the program manager responsible for the Team Build capability of Team Foundation Server. Team Build was one of the biggest areas of improvement for Team Foundation Server 2008, but that hasn't stopped the team from doing even more landmark improvments in Team Foundation Server 2010.

Jim shows off how Team Build 2010 will take advantage of Windows Workflow, build agent pooling, distributed asynchronized builds, and two new types of build called "buddy builds" and gated check-ins.
