Virtual Earth 3D has many applications, but until recently has only been practical on the web with a JavaScript interface. WPF applications could not use the full potential of Virtual Earth 3D without requiring a WPF wizard and some XAML magic due to Win32 interop limitations.

Information Strategies (InfoStrat) has the solution. They created a WPF / Surface control, InfoStrat.VE, and are sharing with the community on CodePlex. This control provides a WPF interface for the Virtual Earth 3D control, complete with data binding for camera control and WPF-based pushpins. All Win32 restrictions (air space control, no rotation or visual brush) are eliminated. Microsoft Surface is also supported.

Watch the interview to learn the history behind the control, see it in action, learn how to get started, and even contribute back to the community.

The video is a little long, so we have provided a timeline below in case you want to skip to specific sections:

00:00     Introduction / Background

10:18 DEMO: Surface application using InfoStrat.VE

15:00 CodePlex project / code walkthrough

38:15 DEMO: Surface application using advanced capabilities in action

43:08 Wrapup / community call to action

It takes some rocket science to process and coerce data into accurate information representative of points of interest on planet Earth. How does Bing Maps work, at the deepest levels, in the cloud? Gur and team have created a very efficient back end system that computes and returns the information you seek when using Bing Maps. Tune in.
While we didn't have time in this episode to let Scott repeat this feat, we did get a chance to talk with him about how the various technologies he utilized worked with the tools in order to make it possible.

If you really want to see him take on this challenge, you can watch his session from MIX09:
While we didn't have time in this episode to let Scott repeat this feat, we did get a chance to talk with him about how the various technologies he utilized worked with the tools in order to make it possible.</evnet:previewtext>

<media:group>

</media:group>

<trackback:ping>http://channel9.msdn.com/472085/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

Chris Pendleton - Virtual Earth Silverlight Map Control

Virtual Earth continues to evolve and support a very robust programming model which allows developers to create unique and interesting mapping applications. One of the most recent developments is that there is a brand new Virtual Earth Mapping control which uses Silverlight for rendering. This provides for a far richer control which gives the developer almost unlimited potential in what they can do. In this episode I've got Chris Pendleton on hand to help us understand some of the benefifts of this new control and show us some of its capabilities.

To see more about this control, you can check out the video of Chris' presentation at MIX09 here:
Do you ever feel you're missing something that could make your life easier as a developer and a power user?

There are so many tools available to choose from and it keeps getting tougher to keep up with them. Tool familiarity continues to be one of the top developer challenges. This series of seminars is all about tools for developers, by developers. Join Microsoft Florida Developer Evangelist Russ Fustino & Microsoft MVP Stan Schultes and others as they bring you demos and discussion about their favorite developer tools.

In this video, you will find tools to help solve these common developer challenges…

Building and deploying video capability in websites

Integrating Mapping Services

Managing your development machine

What’s exactly in those messages in your service layer?

Need storage that’s accessible from anywhere?

Create beautifully styled WPF applications with no lines of code (and no design team!)

Microsoft's Russ Fustino has captured an exciting new format for the event. It is a TV Show; including a co-host, MVP Stan Schultes, Guest Speaker from Infragistics, Jason Beres and Microsoft Developer Evangelist Joe Healy doing a developer community wrapup. We filmed this in front of a live studio audience at the South Florida Code Camp a few weeks back and it is ready to be published. Come back to this page on Thursday at approximately 11am EST for the World Premiere of a tool focused show call It's All About The Tools - TV Show, Episode One. Knowing the right developer tool for the job at hand is more important than ever, and that is what this show is all about... tools. In this Webcast he takes us through the solution & how he made it work.

<evnet:views>3344</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/460255/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>See how easy it is to integrate Dynamics NAV with Virtual Earth</evnet:previewtext>

<media:group>

</media:group>

<trackback:ping>http://channel9.msdn.com/460255/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

Webcast Virtual Earth - Einen Routenplaner in ASP.NETselber bauen

http://blogs.msdn.com/jansche/archive/2009/01/20/ve-codeclip-iii-virtual-earth-integration-und-positionsbestimmung.aspx

http://dev.live.com/tools/

Viel Spass!

The screen is created using 8 high-end full 1080p projectors. The code is a modified version of a sample project with a custom camera class to property adjust the FOV and camera offset for each projector and some code to synchronize the camera positions across the network. In all it took them roughly 10 hours of coding to build this viewer.

ESRI, a Global ISV partner, is pushing the envelope on technology adoption and environmental issues. In this interview, I talk with Senior Product Managers Rob Elkins and John Baleja about technology advancements, development needs and what the Microsoft partnership means to ESRI. Through personal experiences, customer examples and a unique environmental perspective, Rob and John give us a look into the world of geospatial analysis and the importance of Microsoft technologies in their customer’s applications. SQL Server 2008 (new spatial types), Windows Server and Client, Visual Studio 2008 (AJAX), WPF/Silverlight and Virtual Earth are highlighted in this discussion. As is the importance of the balance between managed and native code.

ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner dedicated to helping people to make better decisions that affect the world around us. In “an age of Software plus Services”, ESRI and Microsoft give application developers, analysts and consumers a platform that adapts to varying needs. Many examples are cited, including land use planning, home site selection, police in-vehicle crime statistics and drive time analysis.
