Sorry so long without blogging. I've been in the process of getting moved over from On10.net to Channel 9 for reasons to tiresome to mention, and this little side project has been eating up a lot of my time.

So, going forward, my official new home is
http://channel9.msdn.com/posts/benwaggoner/

And soon good old
http://www.benwaggoner.com

Will direct here as well

So going forward, this is where you'll find all the Ben Waggoner Silverlight/Smooth Streaming/compression/media technology goodness.

At some point I'm hoping to get my old On10.net posts migrated over, but for the meantime they will also remain hosted at the old blog.

<evnet:views>2731</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/506170/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>Hello all,
Mark's posts are stellar. The detail, the clarity, the usefulness. Definitely one of my favorite technical Windows-related blogs. The post I linked to specifically is incredibly interesting given that it details a rare, but very painful problem and in process teaches us about some fundamental properties of the Windows kernel (see his other Pushing the Limits posts on Physical and Virtual memory).
But this was different.

When Mel showed up with Clint, I still didn't know who Clint was. I thought he was another person stopping by to say "Hi" and get a tour of the Channel 9 offices.

About three minutes into meeting him, though, Mel told me who he was - The Disco Floor Guy!

I went a little nuts. Now, instead of Mel bringing someone by who wanted to meet me, it turned into Mel bringing someone by who I wanted to meet.

Many of us have been through something similar to this. You find out who someone is online - usually through articles, a blog, or whatever - but you have no idea what that someone looks like, so, the first time you meet in person, you talk for anywhere from three minutes to three hours before realizing who it is you're talking to.

That's what happened here, and it was neat.

I gave Clint a tour around the offices, and then asked if he'd like to be in a C9 video.

He did :)

<evnet:views>23465</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/249274/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>I first learned about Clint Rutkas when I read a Coding4Fun article in which he described what it took to build a C#-driven disco floor for his apartment (Clint has since become the Coding4Fun blog home page author - congrats on that).

I figured I'd meet him at a conference someday or something, but otherwise tucked the information into the back of my head.

</evnet:previewtext>

<trackback:ping>http://channel9.msdn.com/249274/Trackback.aspx</trackback:ping>

Jon Udell: A talk with Marty Collins about blogs, architectural guidance, and technical marketing

Marty Collins is senior marketing manager with the solution architecture group responsible for msdn.microsoft.com/architecture and skyscrapr.net. She wanted to interview me about the relationship between blogs and technical marketing, and I wanted to hear her thoughts on the same subject, so we wound up interviewing each other.

She was interested to hear my take on how professionals -- not only in the field of software, but also much more broadly -- can and should use blogs to communicate their public agendas.

I was fascinated to hear from her about an upcoming marketing initiative to monitor blog discussions and address questions and concerns by injecting responses directly into blog comments. It's a radical but, I think, clueful strategy for 21st-century marketers.

<evnet:views>7712</evnet:views><evnet:viewtrackingurl>http://channel9.msdn.com/251905/WebViewBug.aspx?EVT=0</evnet:viewtrackingurl><evnet:previewtext>
Marty Collins is senior marketing manager with the solution architecture group responsible for msdn.microsoft.com/architecture and skyscrapr.net.
